True Canadian Hockey!!!

This last week in Ottawa has had major changes in the weather. We had one gorgeous Spring like day where a ton of the snow melted. This of course was the highlight of my week by far. This wonderful melt caused the large farm land/future new home known as the back view from my yard to look like a river. Well, that would have been fine but the next day we had an arctic chill come and froze all that water into a nice ice path. My son Riley noticed this frozen water in the field and decided that this would be the best hockey rink to play on. Every afternoon since his discovery he comes home from school and heads out the door with hockey skates, helmet, and stick in hand. A few of theses days were solo, then he got his dad to come play some hockey and finally coaxed his brother Cody to play with them. Myself and Bella stayed in and watched from the warmth of the living room window.

This view was the epitome of a true canadian experience and I needed to grab my camera and capture this site for them to remember for years to come.

The problem... I was not heading out in the single digit temps and crossing a creek to get close, so I grabbed my long lens and shot from the small crack I opened from the sliding glass door. I love the aged, old world look with the sunset glow that was coming behind them, even if the photos are a bit grainy from shooting so far away and in such low light they capture the moment. This is why I love photography!!

Valentines Day Roses!!!

My sweet husband who never in 13 years of being together has bought me red roses, decided to bring me home a beautiful bouquet of roses for Valentines Day. They were so beautiful with such a deep color of red that I knew instantly that this was my blog post for the week.

A few months back my son, Riley, had been out shopping with my husband and saw these beads that grow in water and keep you flowers watered. These add such a gorgeous touch of color to the arrangement.

Week #6 - Beavertails & Skiing

Week #6 Beavertails & Skiing

Another snow filled week in Ottawa, this week we did a few of the local past times to remember our time here. The whole family went skiing and snowboarding in the Gatineau Mountains at Mont Cascade Ski Lodge. The view from the top was magnificent as seen in the photo. The opposite photo of the lodge was actually taken by myself while I was snowboarding down the hill ( I am a master of all trades with my handy pocket Nikon). The kids and Shawn & I had a great day out on the hill.

Another favorite Canadian past time is ice skating on the Rideau Canal, which is the longest skating rink in North America. The best part about ice skating is building up an appetite for a scrumptious Beavertail. It tastes just like a funnel cake to me but the great thing about the Beavertail is the variety of ways you can have it. Maple Butter, Nutella & Bananas, Chocolate drizzle over Maple Butter and the list goes on. My family and I enjoy all forms of this tasty treat.

Gymnastics & Birthday Celebrations

This past weekend was filled with Birthday celebrations and gymnastics competitions.

My husband had a special weekend filled with a birthday scavenger hunt created by Bella, gifts, a scrumptious dinner a la me, and homemade butter cake with fudge icing.

This weekend also was the first of many I assume gymnastics competitions for Bella. She did very well, nerves and all in check. She placed 2nd in floor, 3rd in bars, 4th on beam and 5th on vault. She did a fantastic job and we are very proud of her!!

Week #4 - Montreal & Quebec City, Canada

Montreal & Quebec City, Canada

We took a little trip this past weekend to Montreal for my sons basketball tournament (1st photo below is my son #10 dribbling the ball) and then we headed over to Quebec City for the Winter Carnival. The weather was cold, high of 10 degrees, low in the negatives and we braved the weather to enjoy the festivities. I wanted to capture a few photos for this weeks blog to showcase what I found to be the most interesting features of Quebec City. Among all of those photos I took the following are a few of my favorites that I wanted to share.

What I do when it's -8 outside!! Week 3 - Blog Journey

This week was a challenge for me as far as getting out and shooting my camera on an interesting subject. The temperature here in Ottawa has been in the negative degrees many days this week. I am not much, well let me be honest and say "I HATE WINTER", that is a better description of my feelings this week.

So what do I do when the weather is sooooo cold out??? Well, I look for healthy recipes to bake with, go to the gym, and do puzzles. I love sweets and puzzles so this is a great reflection of two of my favorite winter activities. Plus, I am on an eating health kick right now and finding tasty recipes that go along with my workout schedule is like gold in my house.

FYI- these are cheese cake muffins with fresh strawberries on top, each muffin is only 152 calories and they taste WONDERFUL!!! Recipe is in this month's Fitness magazine. Try it out for a great treat.

Mother/Daughter Photo Session

I don't often get asked to take mother/daughter portraits but I had the pleasure to photograph Stefanie & Alyssa, my best friend and her daughter while on vacation in Florida. I really love the idea of capturing the relationship between not only the mother/daughter but the father/sons or even the mother/sons, father/daughter relationships. These are a few of my favorites from my photo session with them.

Blog Journey Week #2

Week #2

This was a huge week in the cleaning of my office....not only did I organize and get prepared for the upcoming photo sessions to edit but I broke down and got my husband to agree to get rid of the encyclopedia set we have carried around from state to state the past 12 years. Once they came down from the shelf I realized that they were beautiful to look at and photograph. After years of trying to get rid of these books I found myself on the floor, tri-pod set up taking photos of these books I have cursed under my breathe for years now. I have recently been given the start of a hopefully large collection of vintage cameras from my sister Kim, I placed them on top of the books and loved the look. Actually I am going to print this photo to hang in the office, that's how much I love it. It is simple, clean and has meaning all in the same quick snap of the button. Photos tell a story and that is very true in these photos I collected this week. The people that used these cameras years ago captured there family moments, important times in their lives, these cameras have experienced life. These books hold stories of all the greats from the past in them for all to read.

The last two photos are of our wedding rings, 12 years of stories belong to these rings.

Life is always documented for the future to see, that is why I love my job so much.

Madison & Ryan....well what can I say.....this is my beautiful step-daughter and her super sweet boyfriend. While down visiting in Florida I had the pleasure and I am sure Ryan may say the pain, of taking some photographs of them. I really enjoyed taking these photos of them. Blogging the weeks, a journey!!!

One my New Year's resolutions is to shoot my camera everyday, but let's be really practical,

I am a busy mother of three very active children, I edit and put together a

paper every week and I have my photography business. So with all that said I am aiming a little lower (to not cause me more stress) and decided that once a week was great!! I want to capture our last 5 months in Ottawa through my lens before venturing off to another new location.

As I sit down to blog today, I turn and look out my office window to the beautiful snow falling. I am totally not a fan of winter but it is very picturesque when viewing it and not feeling it:)

Now off to blog about my photo excursion of the week!!

January has arrived and the snow is plentiful. My 2 crazy dogs (Mia the little australian Shepard and Chase my lovable Golden) enjoy playing in the snow in the backyard. They are my first targets in my blogging journey. I also found a few remnants of springtime flowers in there winter coatings.

I hope to continue my weekly journey so to speak and display all the beauty I can capture with my camera!!!

The Johnston Girls

I spent the morning, a very chilly morning at that with Cressy and Cora. I absolutely adore photographing these beautiful girls. This is the reason I love what I do, running around the yard, playing peek-a-boo, or just making little girls smile, this makes me love me job!!

Cressy and Cora are two of the most precious girls and we had a great time. Cressy even endured the Ottawa cold morning in a short sleeve sweater dress so I could get the fabulous street shot.

Lane Family

I met this great family for the first time last Sunday via another client of mine. This family is from Ireland and truly delightful. The boys were excited to be at the park but not to thrilled to sit for me, but they did there best to put up with all my snapping away. I can't blame them, it was a beautiful fall day with plenty of room to run in. Who wouldn't want to run and explore rather than listen to me direct them on what looks best. Now the little "Sassy girl" as I nicknamed her right away was to cute for words. She knew exactly what and where she wanted to sit and how to pose. I love it!!!

I really had a great time meeting and photographing the Lane Family!!

The Dobson Family

It has been a year since the last time I meet with the Dobson Family to take their family portraits and like last time it was a pleasure to spend the afternoon exploring Dow's Lake or "Dobson Hill" as Rayne advised me off.

My Hospital Weekend

My Friday night started out great but ended in the ER of CHEO Hospital in Ottawa. I was called by Bella's gymnastics coach and told that they thought my daughter broke her arm. I was on my way to pick her up when I received the call and panic set in. I picked her up and the tears began, poor little thing. She had fallen while doing a stunt on the balance beam and hit her arm on the way down on the beam. The ER trip ended up being a 2 day adventure which ended finally with set bones, a neon pink cast and a very hungry little girl. She was such a trooper but an exhausted girl.

The neon pink cast is a very cool accessory if worn correctly.

The Curtis Wedding in Virginia Beach!!

I had the pleasure to work with a close friend and fellow photographer, Christina Watkins at the wedding of Michele & Rodney on Virginia Beach. The wedding began early in the morning with an intimate ceremony with close friends followed by a brunch reception at Lesner Inn, which had a beautiful view of the water.

We had quite the adventure in shooting this day, it began with my late flight in the night before and ended in Las Vegas. I was on 2 planes in a matter of hours heading from the east coast to the mid-west.

This wedding began the collaboration of our businesses into the wedding realm together. Watch out world we are a force to be reckoned with!!

This little man has been through more then most of us, if we are lucky, will ever see in our lives. He had heart surgery and multiple procedures done on him with in the first few weeks of his life. He is such a doll and is doing very well. It was a pleasure to take some photos of him for his mom, dad and brother!!

I had the chance to capture this sweet babies first photos. She did not like being naked at all and was having a very hard day so we had to make some changes to her photo shoot. We were on baby Cora time, she eventually calmed down and let me snap a few photos. She is truly precious and her big sister is so excited to have her home. This was another great family to capture. I don't usually take photos indoors very often but with a brand new baby and the Canada weather showing it's true colors it was a perfect day to shoot indoors. I love the home feeling you get when you see the family in their own setting.

I created a coffee table book for the US Embassy, representing the days events for the 4th of July. The cover & back of the book are the images from the invitation. The book turned out fabulous.

Fishing Adventure

I took a photo of a flower and altered the picture to resemble a watercolor painting. I had the photo blown up on a 24x36 size canvas. The outcome was very beautiful.
